Ever take a look at the site called Found Photos? It’s a fairly interesting site..

I found this picure on it and added a caption to it: The Monkey...

Not sure what type of monkey this thing is.. but I bet the reason why it looks so pissed off is because someone decided to mess with it and took a picture. Anyways, it’s a funny photo and the caption works.

Enjoy!

Well, I’m starting to use my FreeBSD laptop again.. It’s kinda just sat on the corner of the table gathering dust or serving up the files I have stored on it.

I upgraded GNOME on it, since it was running an older version. And things seem to be working ok fo rhe most part.

I might upgrade this to FreeBSD-5.3 sometime in the future, but right now I really don’t feel like having to recompile all my C++ stuff since the version of GCC that it includes has a bug in it’s backwards compatibility that breaks stuff.

I’ve wasted enough of my Saturday.. It’s time for me to do something else than sit in front of this damn computer. :) I’m getting bored I guess..

I just got one of the coveted GMail accounts thanks to an acquaintance at work, and I must say I am impressed… even for something that is in it’s Beta stage, it is still pretty cool. The little features that it has that I haven’t seen elsewhere (then again, I don’t use Hotmail or Yahoo, but my own Squrrelmail install on my server)…

Now the question is: When is Google going to go public with this? And when they do, what are their plans for it? Will they start out not spamming you with ads, then go crazy? Or will they keep their ads low-key and less annoying that some other sites?

I guess we will have to wait and see.

I wonder how long before Hotmail and Yahoo start taking ideas from GMail and putting them into their own site?

Unix..

I recenlty upgraded one of my machines to FreeBSD 5.3-RELEASE. I decided to try doing it “remotely” via an ssh shell, eventhough it was right in front of me. I rebuilt the world, built a new kernel, installed it, did the mergemaster thing, rebooted and installed the world…

Some interesting things that I found doing this are:

  1. You need to make sure that any weird local packages or other non-standard stuff (meaning not found in a GENERIC system) are turned off and not able to load at bootup at all… otherwise the system might panic and you will be screwed.

  2. There are a lot of little things that changed between 5.2 and 5.3.. Mainly the files that mergemaster finds. Talk about what could be a real pain..

I feel confident that I could try remotely upgrading other machines now, as long as I adhere to #1 above.. otherwise I will screw some major stuff up.

Ahh, the joys of modern computing…

Ok, first I want to say that I think all these damn Election Predictions need to go away… Every one of them I have seen is different… Half say Kerry barely wins while the others say Bush barely wins. Quit trying to guess what people are doing and WAIT UNTIL THE DAMN RESULTS ARE IN — EVEN IF PEOPLE FEEL THEY WILL BE TAMPERED WITH!!!!

Second, I have to say that I think this year’s Election is going for an all time low in how dirty it is getting. Just the other day I was reading how the Bush campaign was being credited with having the record for all time negativity in ads. Is our current President and his supporters really that scared that they are going to lose that they have to resort to the dirty tricks and total negativity? Come on, you are both politicians and, because of this, neither of you are angels or completely “clean”.

Voting: Get the hell out and vote if you can. Why? Well, that way when the election goes the total opposite way you think it will, you can actually bitch about it. As for all the people who aren’t voting or what not, I have one piece of advice for you when the election is over, and the results are in:

SHUT THE FUCK UP. YOU DIDN’T VOTE, YOU SAT ON YOUR ASS AND ATE BON BONS, PLAYING DOOM 3 AND THINKING THAT YOU JUST “KNEW” WHO WAS GOING TO WIN. YOUR CANDIDATE LOST, YOU ARE A MORON AND NOW YOU HAVE TO LIVE WITH THE CHOICE THAT OTHERS HAVE MADE. IF YOU DON’T LIKE IT, RENOUNCE YOUR CITIZENSHIP AND MOVE TO ANOTHER COUNTRY..

Sorry, I just had to say that.. because I know tomorrow I will hear “well, I know .. blah blah blah blah” everywhere…
